چکیده

Thermally excited waves in a Plasma crystal were numerically simulated using a Box_Tree code. The code is a Barnes_Hut tree code proven effective in modeling systems composed of large numbers of particles. Interaction between individual particles was assumed to conform to a Yukawa potential. Particle charge, mass, density, Debye length and output data intervals are all adjustable parameters in the code. Employing a Fourier transform on the output data, dispersion relations for both longitudinal and transverse wave modes were determined. These were compared with the dispersion relations obtained from experiment as well as a theory based on a harmonic approximation to the potential. They were found to agree over a range of 0.9<κ<5, where κ is the shielding parameter, defined by the ratio between interparticle distance a and dust Debye length λD. This is an improvement over experimental data as current experiments can only verify the theory up to κ = 1.5.

Dispersion relations of longitudinal and transverse waves in two-dimensional screened Coulomb crystals.

Dispersion relations of longitudinal and transverse waves in two-dimensional (2D) screened-Coulomb crystals were investigated. The waves were excited in 2D crystals made from complex plasmas, i.e., dusty plasmas, by applying radiation pressure of laser light. The dependencies of the dispersion relation on the shielding parameter, the damping rate, and the wave propagation direction were experim...

Splitting of the Al surface plasmon dispersion curves by Ag surface layers

2014 The effects of very thin Ag surface layers on the propagation of surface plasma waves (S.P.W.) excited by ATR at an Al surface are investigated in the vicinity of the Ag plasma frequency and the S.P.W. dispersion relations, are obtained. A splitting of the dispersion curves is found for Ag layers 26, 39 and 58 Å thick, but does not appear for thinner layers. Experimental and computed dispe...

Propagating transverse waves in soft X-ray coronal jets

Aims. The theoretical model for magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modes guided by a field-aligned plasma cylinder with a steady flow is adapted to interpret transverse waves observed in solar coronal hot jets, discovered with Hinode/XRT in terms of fast magnetoacoustic kink modes. Methods. Dispersion relations for linear magnetoacoustic perturbations of a plasma jet of constant cross-section surrounded...

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present a new generalized form of the Appleton-Hartree formulation. To that end, we use a system of linearized quantum plasma equations to include quantum corrections due to the quantum force produced by the density fluctuations of electrons. Dispersion relations and their modifications resulting form quantum effects are derived for both quasi-parallel ...

Excitation and Propagation of Electrostatic Ion Cyclotron Waves in rf-Sustained Plasmas of Interest to Propulsion Research

Excitation and propagation of Electrostatic Ion Cyclotron (EIC) waves in an rf-sustained argon plasma are reported along with measurement of dispersion relation. Such waves can be used to energize the plasmas of a number of promising propulsion concepts. The waves are excited by an antenna consisting of two parallel metal plates inserted at the edge of a plasma column with their surface normal ...
